Nearby Lakes

Four nearby lakes — Chatuge, Hiwassee, Apalachia and Nantahala — offer boating and fishing. And two rivers — the Ocoee and Nantahala — offer exceptional whitewater rafting and kayaking. Other sections of the Nantahala provide some of the region’s finest trout fishing.

Charming Small Towns

Murphy, Andrews, Brasstown and Hayesville are all charming small towns with a variety of shops and restaurants as well as performing arts groups and museums. And just up the road is the internationally known John C. Campbell Folk School offering classes year-round in craft, art, music, dance, cooking, gardening, nature studies, photography and much more.

Hiking & Exploring

For hiking, the Fires Creek Wilderness Area and the Appalachian Trail are nearby, as are the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. And for a different way to travel, there’s horseback riding along mountain trails and soaring over them on a zip line. Or choose mountain biking on the nationally-known Jackrabbit trails overlooking Lake Chatuge.

Travel the Cherohala Skyway by car or take ride along the Toccoa River on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway.

Wineries, Breweries, & Golf

If golf is your game, exciting mountain courses abound, including Cherokee Hills in Murphy, and a championship course at nearby Brasstown Valley Resort.

For a relaxing break, enjoy one of the area’s five wineries and three breweries.

Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Casino

Just a few minutes away, Harrah’s new Cherokee Valley River Casino & Hotel offers 24-hour gaming with 1,000 slot machines and 70 traditional gaming tables.
